High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Tumbarumba Public School, our approach to High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is comprehensive and designed to challenge and support our students across the four key domains: creative, physical, intellectual, and social/emotional. Through this multi-layered approach, Tumbarumba Public School is committed to providing a stimulating and supportive environment that nurtures the whole child and enables HPGE students to achieve their full potential across creative, physical, intellectual, and social/emotional
At the school level, Tumbarumba Public School offers a broad spectrum of opportunities to nurture HPGE students across domains.
Physical domain: Students participate in the Highlands & Riverina Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country events, and engage in team sports such as Rugby League, Netball, Basketball, T-Ball, Cricket, Tennis, and AFL. We also offer Sporting Schools programs featuring volleyball, frisbee, judo, tennis, table tennis, rugby league clinics, AFL clinics, and golf. Gardening programs further promote physical development and well-being.
Creative domain: Creative enrichment is provided through guitar lessons, choir, dance programs, recorder groups, marimba ensembles, piano tuition, and collaboration with the Snowy Valley Sculpture Trail projects, allowing students to explore and develop their artistic talents.
Intellectual domain: Intellectual growth is supported through participation in Public Speaking, Debating, Spelling Bees, and Chess competitions, enabling students to enhance their communication, reasoning, and strategic thinking skills.
Social/Emotional domain: Leadership courses, Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL), Resilience Project and Zones of Regulation are offered to develop interpersonal skills, resilience, and confidence, equipping students to thrive socially and emotionally.
Tumbarumba Public School actively connects with statewide initiatives to extend opportunities for HPGE students beyond our local community.
Physical: Our students participate in State Athletics, Swimming, and Rugby League competitions, representing the school with pride and achieving excellence at the highest levels.
Creative: We engage in programs such as PULSE Alive dancing and choir, as well as the Festival of Instrumental Music which features recorder ensembles and soloist performances, offering HPGE students' prestigious platforms to showcase and further develop their creative talents.
Intellectual and Social/Emotional: Through these statewide engagements and collaborative networks, students continue to build intellectual skills and leadership capacities in diverse environments, fostering a well-rounded development.
